Writing FabJob Guides

Imagine having a rewarding and interesting job as a writer of FabJob guides.

This year we plan to publish dozens of new FabJob guides and are looking for another skilled writers for our team. If you become a FabJob guide writer, we will provide you with a template for our guides and you will add career-specific content based on research and recommendations from industry experts.

For example, if the guide includes a chapter on starting a business, the template will provide information about how to write a business plan (among other advice on starting a business), and you will write a sample business plan for that particular type of business.

Payment is on a flat fee (non-royalty) basis. Assignments pay $1,200 U.S. for writing 15,000 words or $1,600 U.S. for writing 20,000 words. Payment is on acceptance (normally within a couple of weeks of submission). We also publish writers' bios in the guide, and provide a copy of the e-book as well as the print book when it is published.

In addition to submitting publication-ready manuscripts by the agreed upon deadlines, the writers we hire have:

  • Exceptional research skills
  • An engaging writing style
  • Respect for copyright
  • Experience writing "how to" information (ideally a published author of For Dummies or similar books)
If you are willing and able to research and write FabJob guides according to our template, for the pay noted above, please submit several paragraphs about your research and writing credentials, using the form at the bottom of this page. Please include in your submission a list of any careers or businesses you are particularly interested in writing about and tell us whether you are interested in writing FabJob guides on a part-time or full-time basis.

We appreciate all applications, and will provide further details about assignments to writers we are interested in working with.

Distribution of Self-Published Books

Have you self-published an e-book or print book on how to break into a popular career or start a retail or service business in an industry that many people dream of getting started in? Would you like to add to your income without doing additional work?

If your answer is "yes," contact us to ask about distributing your guide through FabJob. There is no charge to participate in our distribution program; we pay you.

With millions of visitors per year to our web site, this arrangement can generate some bonus income for you without additional work on your part.

Here is the arrangement we make for distributing guides that an author has self-published:

  • We review the guide to ensure it fits with our publishing program (we're looking for in-depth information, original content, and an encouraging tone).
  • We send you a contract to distribute the e-book through our website. (The contract states that you can continue to sell through other distribution channels.)
  • You provide us with the guide in PDF format.
  • The title we will sell it under will be FabJob Guide to... or FabJob Presents...
  • We handle fulfillment of all orders we generate.
  • If the guide is ready to sell, we pay a royalty of 25% of revenue received from sales. We do not pay an advance.
  • Royalties are paid monthly, and payment arrangements are specified in the contract you will receive if we wish to proceed with distribution.
If these terms are acceptable to you, please use the form at the bottom of this page to query us. If we haven't already published a guide on that topic (and aren't in the process of publishing a guide on that topic), we will ask you to forward an electronic version of your book or e-book for review.

If the terms stated above are not acceptable to you, we thank you for considering FabJob.com and wish you all the best in distributing it elsewhere.

Our publishing schedule is exceptionally busy so even if a guide is outstanding, we may not be able to distribute it until later this year, or we may have to decline to distribute it. However, this could be a win-win for both of us, so we appreciate the opportunity to review your guide for possible distribution by FabJob.

Please note that our customers are looking for information about how to get started in specific careers or businesses (popular ones that many people want to break into), so we are not seeking guides on broad topics such as job-hunting, interviewing, or career success. Before submitting a query, please review our list of current titles to ensure that we have not already published a guide on a closely related topic.

Promotion

Our marketing department will work to promote your guide through online methods such as a network of affiliate sites, and offline marketing such as media publicity to help bring more traffic and potential guide buyers to the FabJob.com website. We will include promotional information about you in your guide and, depending on your area of expertise, this might result in spin off business for you, such as other writing assignments or consulting work.

By the way, while we are happy to cooperate with reporters and reviewers, we ask that our authors not tell a journalist that their FabJob guide is a "best seller." As a private company, we do not disclose competitive information including sales figures or marketing plans.

"I appreciate all the promotion FabJob does for the site and e-books. My royalty check is consistent, and while I do ongoing promotion for the e-book I know that it's the FabJob efforts at bringing visitors to the site that make the sales."
Writing for FabJob.com

We publish articles on a variety of career topics in the career advice section of FabJob.com. Pay is $10 per article, and we are happy to publish information about the author.

We currently have a backlog of articles so we will not be accepting new articles until mid-2008. You can check back later or submit the first 400 words of the article using the form at the bottom of this page. We acknowledge receipt of all submissions with an automated reply, and will be in touch later this year if we are interested in publishing your article.
