Fab Jobs with FabJob

If you would like a rewarding position with a leading indie book publisher, we invite you to apply to FabJob.com, named "the #1 place to get published online" by Writer's Digest.

Our company is growing because we have recently launched a college for non-traditional careers, the International Association of Professions Career College (also known as IAP Career College), which uses FabJob guides as textbooks.

It's been a long time coming. FabJob guides have been used as textbooks by other colleges for more than a decade. You can find our books in the career centers and library collections of many famed colleges and universities – from the University of Texas to the Fashion Institute of Technology – as well as in numerous public libraries in cities from Vancouver to New York.

Now that we're offering our own fab courses to go along with our fab books, we need more FabJobbers (yes, fab is our favorite word).

If we're a fit for you and you're a fit for us, you will join an organization that good workers want to keep working with (the first two people we hired 15 years ago are still with us and our best contractors typically return to work with us again and again). Plus, whenever possible, we reward our people with as many hours of work as they want plus a pay raise within 3 months.

If FabJob sound like the kind of "place" you might like to work (actually, you'll be working from the comfort of your own home, whether that's in Colorado or Cork, Ireland like other FabJobbers), please click on a link for information:

Book Designer

We are seeking someone who is experienced with and owns InDesign to update FabJob guides in e-book and print formats. Our average books range in length up to about 300 pages.

Pay is $15 per hour for updating books with a list of changes provided by an editor (e.g. revising hyperlinks, updating dates and other factual information, adding or deleting a few sentences or paragraphs here and there).

It's a pretty good gig. Our lead designer, Dave, joined us as an intern and is still with us 12 years later. The position is part-time, flexible, and work-from-home.

We invite you to apply if you work quickly and have excellent attention to detail. Experience preparing books for POD publication is an asset. Please submit several paragraphs about yourself using the form at the bottom of this page.

Teaching Assistant

UPDATE: We have more than enough qualified applicants for our Business Consultant, Event Planner, Public Relations, and Freelance Writer courses, among others, but will keep applications from people who want to be a TA for those courses for future consideration. We still have many other courses that will need Teaching Assistants during the coming year, so please apply if you have experience working in a non-traditional career that is the subject of a FabJob guide.
Could you be a teaching assistant for IAP Career College?

IAP Career College, a division of FabJob Inc., aims to offer the finest in online career education and certificate programs for non-traditional careers. You can read about us at our website, www.iapcollege.com. This year we will launch dozens of new career certificate courses for "dream careers."

We are seeking people who have experience working in one or more of the careers that are the subjects of FabJob guides. Previous, and preferably current, full-time paid experience working in the career is a requirement for this position.

We have an immediate need for faculty members for the following courses being offered in March, 2014:

  • Home Stager
  • Makeup Artist
  • Motivational Speaker
  • Book Editor
  • Brewery Manager
  • Caterer
  • Ice Cream Shop Manager
  • Interior Redesigner
The textbooks for all courses are from FabJob Inc., the leading publisher of career guide books on how to get started in a dream career. FabJob guides have been used as textbooks for more than a decade, and you can find them in the career centers and library collections of many famed colleges and universities – from the University of Texas to the Fashion Institute of Technology.

The part-time position, which pays $17.50 per hour, involves responding to student questions by email and Skyping with students who want assistance that way. We ask that teaching assistants respond to students within 24 hours.

We expect teaching assistants to give advice from their own experience working in the career, however, information provided to students must also be consistent with the course textbook.

If this sounds like a potential fit for you, please submit an application using the form at the bottom of this page. In your application please indicate which specific course topic you are qualified to teach and include both your experience working in that career (especially if you started a business in that field) and any past teaching, tutoring, or coaching experience.

Assistant Editor

UPDATE: We have received more than 500 applications for the Assistant Editor position we currently have available, so any applications submitted today will be considered for future openings in our editorial department.
If you would like a rewarding editorial position with a leading indie book publisher we invite you to apply to FabJob.com, named "the #1 place to get published online" by Writer's Digest.

We are seeking an assistant editor to begin working with us immediately. This is a flexible work-from-home position that pays $15 per hour, with a negotiable number of hours per week.

Reporting to the managing editor, you will work on a variety of projects, updating FabJob career guides which are also used as textbooks for the International Association of Professions Career College at www.iapcollege.com. Because our organization is lean, we need someone who is self-directed and will work quickly with minimal supervision. We're happy to hold hands for your first project, but after that you'll be expected to complete projects on your own.

Please note that the focus of this job is structural editing, not copy editing. If you love to look for grammatical errors in everything you read, this is not the job for you. Believe it or not, our books are conversational in tone! We use "they" instead of "he" even when writing in the singular. (We use too many brackets.) And sentence fragments. But we produce exceptional career guides that help people's dreams come true.

We typically receive hundreds of applications for every editorial position we advertise, but please don't let that discourage you if you have the qualities we are looking for. If you have a history of academic excellence (e.g. a Master's degree with an exceptional GPA), are highly intuitive (according to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), and go the extra mile (i.e. your application letter shows you've found out more about our business than what's in this ad), you will already be ahead of 95% of applicants.

If we're a fit for you and you're a fit for us, you will join an organization that good workers want to keep working with (the first two people we hired 15 years ago are still with us and our best contractors typically return to work with us again and again). Plus, whenever possible, we reward our people with as many hours of work as they want plus a 15% pay raise within 3 months.

If you feel you are a good fit with what we are looking for, please submit several paragraphs about yourself using the form at the bottom of this page.

Other Positions

Although we have no other current job openings, we expect to add to our team in future, so we encourage you to submit an application using the form at the bottom of this page if you have experience and skills that will help us sell more FabJob guides or get more people to enroll in certificate courses offered by the International Association of Professions Career College.

We think it's pretty clear what our company is all about, but we've learned we have to come right out and say: FabJob does not hire for most of the careers we publish guides about.

For those who have figured out that we're book publishers and online educators, not an employment agency, you may be interested to know that the 20 jobs we don't hire for which we have received the most applications for are (listed alphabetically): actor, cartoonist, celebrity assistant, children's book author, cruise ship worker, event planner, fashion designer, flight attendant, interior decorator, massage therapist, model, motivational speaker, mystery shopper, personal shopper, recording artist, songwriter, travel writer, TV reporter, video game designer, wedding planner

For anyone still hoping we'll hire them for any of the jobs listed in the previous paragraph, sorry, but we cannot read or respond to applications for any of those jobs. If you want one of these jobs order a FabJob guide to learn how to break into the career of your dreams.

The form below can be used to submit up to a 400 word application for the jobs described above with FabJob. Due to the volume of applications we receive, we cannot read or respond to other submissions.

When you submit your application, please include a link to your personal website, resume, or LinkedIn page. But please make sure you also include at least a paragraph about yourself and why you are the ideal person for the position, with specific examples of your relevant experience and education. Because of the volume of applications we receive (up to 1,000 per week), we regret we are not able to check out webpages of all applicants.

When you submit the form it will take you to a page that acknowledges your submission. We will respond personally if we are interested in following up.

* FabJob is a book publishing company. We publish and market books. We do not do any hiring for most of the fun fabulous jobs we publish FabJob guides about such as fashion designer, motivational speaker, celebrity personal assistant, event planner, massage therapist, mystery shopper, cruise ship worker, etc. But even though we don't have motivational speakers on staff to give you pep talks or massage therapists to help you unwind, working with FabJob is still fabulous.
