Why
haven't I heard anything since placing my order?
If
you have not heard anything from us, there are several possible reasons. There may be
a typo in
the email address entered on the order form. Please contact
us to let us know and we can send you the guide. (Please specify
which guide you ordered.)
Another
possibility is that if you have a free email account (such as Hotmail,
MSN, etc.) you may have exceeded the maximum storage capacity. Please contact
us to let us know and either provide an alternate email address
or empty out some space in your free email account and we can send you
the guide.
Please
contact us with a different email
address if you ordered with a Yahoo email
address and did not receive your order
within a few minutes. Yahoo Mail is currently undergoing a transition
to a new format and some accounts are experiencing problems receiving emails.
If you need a reliable free email address we recommend you sign
up for a free GMail account provided by Google then contact
us with your new email address.
Alternately,
if you have provided your company or business email address your company
might have a firewall that prohibits emails with downloadable links, embedded
images or attachments. In that case please provide an alternate email address
where we can send the emails.
Also,
please make sure you send your email to the right address. Occasionally
a customer will send an email to a wrong address (such as "fatjob" instead of "FabJob"). If it's sent to another website, we won't
receive it. You will know we have received your email if you get an automatic
reply from us thanking you for your email.
How
do I download the guide?
It
is fast and easy to download your guide. Here are the steps to follow:
IMPORTANT
FIRST STEP IF YOU HAVE AN OLD COMPUTER: Begin by downloading Acrobat
Reader by clicking on the Acrobat Reader link in the email we send you.
For step-by-step downloading instructions see the answer to the next question.
(Chances are you will not need to do this step because Acrobat Reader is
already on millions of computers, including all new computers.)
Once
you have Acrobat Reader, these simple steps will work for most people (see
below if you are using Netscape):
-
Click
on the link to the guide in the email we send you.
-
The
link will take you to a web page which shows the cover of the guide. Click
on the guide cover.
-
When
the pop-up box comes up, and asks whether you want to "open" (or "run")
or "save" (or "download") the guide to your computer choose open
(or run).
-
Read
the information in the next pop-up box, then click the "OK" button.
-
Minimize
all your open applications so you can see your desktop. You will find a
PDF file with the guide's name on your desktop.
-
Double
click on the PDF file and when it asks for a password, type all in lower
case: fabjob.com
-
Enjoy
your guide!
Netscape
Users: Save the guide to your desktop, then double click on the icon
that appears on your desktop. (If you have an older version of Netscape
and cannot download, you can either upgrade to a new version of Netscape
or have the guide sent to you by e-mail or
on CD-ROM.)
How
do I download Acrobat Reader?
If
you do not already have Acrobat Reader on your computer, follow these steps
to download it (it's free).
First
click on the following link:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
This
should automatically open your internet browser and take you to the download
site.
Scroll
to the bottom of the web page and using the drop down boxes in Step
1 select:
-
Language:
English
-
Platform:
Choose whatever operating system you are using (e.g. Win 98 if you have
Windows 98).
-
Connection Speed: either dial up or broad
band
Hit
the download button in Step 2, but be advised that if you are using
a modem connection with a speed of 28 mbs, this download may take over
50 minutes, so be aware of this before you proceed. If you have a
high speed connection (DSL or cable) it will only be a few minutes.
When
your computer gives you the option to run the program from the current
location or save this program to disk, you select the run from current
location option. When the download is complete the program will
install itself asking you questions that you can just choose the recommended
responses for. When the installation is complete the program will want
to restart your computer. This is required before you can open the
guide.
After
the computer has been restarted you should be able to open your guide.
Scroll down this page for more answers if you want help finding the guide
on your computer or opening it.
I
clicked on the link, but it takes me to a blank window.
If you are using Netscape:
If
you have an older version of Netscape and can't download the guide because
the link takes you to a blank window, you can either upgrade to a new version
of Netscape, use Internet Explorer, or have
the guide sent to you by e-mail or on CD-ROM.
If you are using Internet
Explorer: Simply close the blank window or click on the browser window
behind it, and you will find the page to download your guide. (If this
happens to you, it probably means you have Windows XP, which may bring
up a blank window whenever you click on a link in an email.)
It
tells me I have already made 2 attempts to download and won't let me try
again.
Email Contact
us and we can send you another link to download your guide.
What
is the password?
As
mentioned in the email sent with your guide, the password is: fabjob.com
Please ensure that you type fabjob.com in all lower case.
I
got an error saying "this document requires a password" but it doesn't
give me a place to enter a password.
If
this happens it means you do not have the standard version of Acrobat Reader.
The version we use is the one that millions of people already have on their
computers. To get your own copy, click on the link below and follow the
3 simple steps.
How
to Download Acrobat Reader
When
I open the guide it has all sorts of funny characters. Why is that happening?
If
this happens it means you are one of the few people who does not already
have Acrobat Reader (the program to read guides) on your computer.
Fortunately, it is incredibly easy as well as free to get a copy. Click
on the link below and follow the 3 simple steps.
How
to Download Acrobat Reader
I
am experiencing something weird (e.g. none of the links working). What
should I do?
In
those very rare cases where someone has experienced problems with the guide
after following the instructions, we found it was due to a "glitch" in
transport and when we sent another copy of the guide the customer was able
to read it without difficulty. To request another copy of the guide, contact
us. Please include your name and the guide you ordered.
I
downloaded my guide, but forgot where I put it. How can I find the guide
on my computer?
First,
look on your desktop. Unless you saved it somewhere else or asked to
have the guide sent to you by email, you will find a PDF file with the
guide's name right on your desktop.
If
you saved the guide somewhere else, you can find it by doing a search for
a keyword in the name of the guide, for example "celebrity", "speaker",
"video" etc.
Sample
Search: The instructions for finding a file on your computer are given
below for Windows. If you were trying to find the Cartoonist guide, for
example, here is what you would do:
-
Click
on the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of your screen
-
From
the pull-up menu choose "Find"
-
Choose
"Files or Folders"
-
In
the box that pops up on your screen type "cartoonist" in the named field
-
Then
click on the "Find" button
-
When
a little red and grey icon named "cartoonist.pdf" appears in the box, double
click on it and it should open
If
you do not have Windows and want to find out how to do a search, here are
your options: (1) check the manual for your computer, (2) ask the company
that supplied your computer, (3) ask someone you know who has a computer
system like yours.
How
do I open the guide once it's on my computer?
You
can open it using one of the following methods:
-
Double
click on the PDF file for the guide that appears on your desktop (it should
open automatically) or
-
Open
the Acrobat Reader program then open the guide in Reader by going under
"File" and choosing "Open". If you saved the guide somewhere other than
your desktop but can't remember where, see the answer above to find out
how to do a search on your computer.
I am having difficulty
printing the whole guide.
If this happens it means
your printer may not have enough memory to print the entire guide all at
once. If you are experiencing this we recommend printing the guide 30 or
40 pages at a time.
I'm
having trouble downloading it. Is there another way to get it?
Yes. We can send the guide
to you as an email attachment or on CD-ROM. (As indicated
on dozens of pages throughout the website, including the guide information
pages and order page, most guides are not available in print. If
you want to read one of our electronic books on paper, you can print a
copy from your own computer.)
If you would like us to send
you the guide as an email attachment, please contact
us with your name, the title of the guide, and the email address
you would like us to send the guide to.
Please note that some free
email accounts, such as Hotmail and MSN, do not have enough space
to receive guides, a few AOL accounts have size limitations, and some Yahoo accounts are not receiving all emails. If you
wish to receive a guide by email, please provide us with an email address
which has enough space to receive large attachments (e.g. the email for
your dial-up or cable Internet account), or open a free GMail account at
http://www.gmail.com.
(Although they are free, GMail accounts, which are provided by Google, have enough space to receive many FabJob guides.)
Then please review the questions
below concerning email attachments to ensure you can easily receive your
guide. There is no additional charge to have us send you the guide as an
email attachment.
If
you prefer, we can send you the guide on CD-ROM which should solve any
problems with space in your email. Please note if you choose this option
that there is a $10 additional charge for a CD-ROM ($5 for the CD and $5
for shipping and handling). Contact us
if you would like to order a CD-ROM.
If
Your Guide Is Sent as an E-Mail Attachment
How
do I download the guide?
Please
follow the simple instructions in the email we sent you with your guide.
We have included one or two options in that email which will work in almost
all cases. If neither of the options we give works with your email, please
contact your email provider to find out how to download an attachment.
(See Finding Someone to Help You.) If
it turns out your email does not have enough space to receive the guide,
please refer to the answer above.
I
didn't receive the guide attachment.
If
you received the email saying there was a guide attached, but couldn't
find the attachment, it most likely was automatically downloaded to your
computer. (CompuServe is one of the email services that automatically
downloads attachments.) The company that provides your email service should
be able to tell you if that's happening in your case. You should then be
able to find the guide by doing a search for it on your computer (see the
answer to the next question).
What
if my email account doesn't have enough space? (or I'm getting a message
that the file is too large to open)
A
few AOL accounts cannot download large files. Likewise, if you have
an email account with a free email service such as
Hotmail,
MSN,
Netscape or Juno your email account may be limited in size
to as little as 1.5 megabytes. Some of our guides are so packed with valuable
information they are around 2.0 megabytes in size. So here are your options:
1.
Contact
us to give us an alternate email address we can send the guide
to, such as:
-
the
email you use for your dial-up or cable Internet account
-
a
friend's or relative's email
Remember
that MSN and free email accounts such as Hotmail may not have enough space,
and some corporate emails do not allow users to receive attachments, but
most paid email accounts should work just fine. (When you contact us, please
specify which guide you ordered.)
2.
Open
a free email account with Google's GMail. Although GMail
is free, it gives you lots of space (enough to receive many guides). You
can open a GMail account at http://www.gmail.com.
You can access GMail on the Internet using your Internet browser such as
Explorer.
3.
If
you prefer, we can send you the guide on CD-ROM which should solve any
problems with space in your email. Please note if you choose this option
that there is a $10 additional charge for a CD-ROM ($5 for the CD and $5
for shipping and handling). Contact us
if you would like to order a CD-ROM.
Finding
Someone to Help You
Because
more than 99% of people are able to download and read our guides, we do
not have technical support staff. If you are among the 1% who feels "technically
challenged" one possibility is to ask a friend or family member for assistance.
Another
possibility may be to get technical support from the company that provides
your Internet or email, or that you purchased your computer from. For example,
if you were having trouble downloading the guide from your email you could
ask your email provider for assistance, and if you were having trouble
printing or downloading Acrobat Reader you could ask the company that supplied
your computer for a solution. Go to their home page and look for a link
that says "contact us", "customer service" or "support".
In
the vast majority of cases, you should be able to download and read the
guide without any assistance. See Questions
and Solutions above for information.
