Career
Guide Writer
Imagine having a rewarding
and interesting job as a writer of FabJob guides.
This year we plan to publish
dozens of new FabJob guides and are looking for another skilled writer
for our team. If you become a FabJob guide writer, we will provide you
with a template for our guides and you will add career-specific content
based on research and recommendations from industry experts.
For example, if the guide
includes a chapter on starting a business, the template will provide information
about how to write a business plan (among other advice on starting a business),
and you will write a sample business plan for that particular type of business.
Payment
is on a flat fee (non-royalty) basis. Assignments pay $1,200 U.S. for writing
15,000 words or $1,600 U.S. for writing 20,000 words. Payment is on acceptance
(normally within a couple of weeks of submission). Using our template,
you should be able to easily complete one guide per month part-time. We
also publish writers' bios in the guide, and provide a copy of the e-book
as well as the print book when it is published.
In addition to submitting
publication-ready manuscripts by the agreed upon deadlines, the writers
we hire have:
-
Exceptional research skills
-
An engaging writing style
-
Respect for copyright
-
Experience writing "how to"
information (ideally a published author of For Dummies or similar
books)
If you are willing and able
to research and write FabJob guides according to our template, for the
pay noted above, please submit several paragraphs about your research and
writing credentials, using the form at the bottom of this page. Please
include in your submission a list of any careers or businesses you are
particularly interested in writing about and tell us whether you are interested
in writing FabJob guides on a part-time or full-time basis.
We
appreciate all applications, and will provide further details about assignments
to writers we are interested in working with.
If you already have a
finished manuscript and would like to distribute it through FabJob,
please visit our writer's
page.
Book
Designer
We are seeking someone skilled
in using Adobe InDesign to design e-books and books for FabJob.com on a
contract basis.
Pay is a flat fee ranging
from $125 U.S. for updating an e-book to several hundred dollars or more
for designing a complete e-book or book of 175 to 250 pages using our template
(fees vary depending on the assignment and length).
We invite you to apply if
you work quickly, have excellent attention to detail, and have experience
designing publications (preferably book length).
Please submit several paragraphs
about yourself, using the form at the bottom of this page and let us know
if you are available on a part-time or full-time basis. Also let us know
if you have experience with selecting photographs (we will provide you
with our photo sources) or using Adobe Photoshop. If you have these skills
we may be able give you more assignments.
Your submission will be acknowledged
with an automated reply. We will provide further details of assignments
to those we are interested in working with.
Editorial
Internships
If
you would like valuable real-world experience with a leading publisher
we invite you to apply to intern with FabJob.com, named "the #1 place to
get published online" by Writer's Digest.
As
a FabJob intern, you won't be making coffee, answering phones, or fetching
your supervisor's dry cleaning. Instead, you can get valuable hands-on
experience with a top publisher, updating FabJob career guides.
Hours
of work are flexible and interns can choose to work part-time or full-time.
Interns work from home, so we accept applications from anywhere in the
United States and Canada.
Editorial
internships are normally unpaid. However, we pay a $200 U.S. stipend upon
completion of each 40 hours of an internship. In addition, FabJob internships
can offer valuable experience to help
you in achieving your future career goals.

Other
Positions
Although we have no other
current job openings, we encourage you to submit several paragraphs about
yourself using the form at the bottom of this page if you have experience
in any of the following areas: book publishing, customer service, graphic
design, marketing, research, retail merchandising, web development, sales,
television production, etc. We will keep your application on file in case
a suitable position opens up in future.
Editorial positions are
filled differently than other positions. We currently fill all new
editing jobs by promoting interns into paid positions. Click here for information
about editorial internships with FabJob.com.
FabJob
does not hire for the careers we publish guides about (e.g.
actor, cartoonist, celebrity assistant, cruise ship worker, event planner,
fashion designer, interior decorator, model, motivational speaker, mystery
shopper, pop star, songwriter, travel writer, video game designer, wedding
planner, etc.) and we cannot read or respond to applications for any of
these jobs. If you want one of these jobs order
a FabJob guide to learn how to break into the career of your dreams.
How
to Apply to FabJob
To
increase
your chance of success, please take a minute to read the following
information.
Dos
-
Do read
the requirements for the position and any other recommended information
before applying.
-
Do tell
us your type according to the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (if you
know what it is).
-
Do
make your initial submission up to 400 words. The form cuts off
longer submissions, but we don't recommend submitting only a couple of
sentences because that's not enough information for us to decide to follow
up on an application.
-
If
you are applying for a writing position, do mention any particular topics
you are an expert in.
-
Do
remember to proofread before hitting the submit button.
Don'ts
-
Don't
address us as "dear sirs" or refer to our website as fabjobs.com.
-
Don't
use the form to apply for any position not advertised on this page.
For example, it is a waste of your time to apply to be a fashion designer,
mystery shopper, cruise ship worker, etc.
-
Don't
use this form to ask us for career advice. For fabulous advice,
order
a FabJob guide.
-
Don't
disclose personal information such as any references to your age
or family.
-
Don't
provide little information about yourself and ask us to check out your
website or contact you with more information about the job. Because
of the number of applications we receive, we can follow up only with people
we are interested in working with.
The
form below can be used to submit up to a 400 word application for the jobs
described above with FabJob. Due to the volume of applications we receive,
we cannot read or respond to other submissions.
When you submit the form
it will take you to a page that acknowledges your submission. We will respond
personally if we are interested in following up.
