Career
Guide Writers
As a FabJob guide writer,
you will join our team of award-winning best-selling authors.
If you are hired to write
a FabJob guide, we will provide you with a template and you will add career-specific
content based on your own experiences, research, and recommendations from
other industry experts.
For example, if the guide
includes a chapter on starting a business, the template will provide information
about how to write a business plan, and you will write a sample plan for
that particular type of business.
Assignments may involve researching
and writing an entire guide (adding a minimum of 20,000 words to the template),
or researching and writing part of a guide. Payment is on a flat fee (non-royalty)
basis. Assignments pay $2,000 U.S. for writing
a complete FabJob guide. For shorter assignments fees typically range from
$150 to $500.
Payment is on acceptance
(within a couple of weeks of submission). We also publish writers' bios
in the guide, and provide a copy of the e-book as well as the print book
when it is published.
Writing
Opportunities
We are currently seeking
individuals with expertise in the following areas to write FabJob guides
for both e-book and print publication:
-
Celebrity Personal Assistant
(update to current guide)
-
Corporate Trainer (both in-house
and running your own training company)
-
Fashion Stylist
-
Feng Shui Consultant
-
Life Stylist
-
Matchmaker
-
Seminar Planner
-
Virtual Assistant
FabJob guides are normally written
by people who have personally experienced a high level of success in a
particular career (e.g. who have won awards for their work, have celebrity
clients, or have been featured in national media publicity). However, we
will also consider assigning a guide to a professional writer with access
to nationally recognized experts in a particular career field.
Although we are currently
seeking applications from experts in the fields listed above, in 2010 we
expect to have other assignments for professional writers. If you can write
in-depth about a variety of topics, you may apply now for future consideration.
In addition to submitting publication-ready manuscripts by the agreed upon
deadlines, the writers we hire have:
-
Exceptional academic research
skills
-
An engaging writing style
-
Respect for copyright
-
Experience writing "how to"
information
How
to Apply
If you are an expert or professional
writer who is willing and able to research and write FabJob guides according
to our template, for the pay noted above, please use the form at the bottom
of this page to submit an application. Please specify which particular
guide topic(s) you are qualified to write.
We appreciate all applications,
and will provide further details about assignments to writers we are interested
in working with.
Virtual
Assistant (Update)
Thank you to everyone who
recently applied for a virtual assistant position with FabJob.
Because we're a lean indie
book
publishing company, it takes time for applications to be carefully reviewed
by everyone involved in the hiring decision. How long it takes depends
on the number of applications (over 800 virtual assistant applications
were received in October and November) and how much time our staff can
devote to reading applications while meeting publication deadlines.
We have been consistently
impressed with the incredibly high quality of applications and regret we
cannot follow up with every qualified person who applies to work with FabJob.
If we are not able to follow up with you in 2009, we will keep your application
for future consideration.
We appreciate you considering
FabJob worthy of your time to submit an application, and we wish you all
the best for your continued success.
Other
Positions
Although we have no other
current job openings, we expect to add to our team in 2010, so we encourage
you to submit several paragraphs about yourself using the form at the bottom
of this page if you have experience in book publishing. We will keep your
application on file in case a suitable position opens up in future.
We think it's pretty clear
what our company is all about, but we've learned we have to come right
out and say: FabJob does not hire for the careers
we publish guides about.
For those who have figured
out that we're book publishers and not an employment agency, you may be
interested to know that the 20 jobs we don't hire for which we have received
the most applications for are (listed alphabetically): actor,
cartoonist,
celebrity
assistant, children's
book author, cruise
ship worker, event
planner, fashion
designer, flight
attendant, interior
decorator, massage
therapist, model,
motivational
speaker, mystery
shopper, personal
shopper, recording
artist, songwriter,
travel
writer, TV
reporter, video
game designer, wedding
planner.
For anyone still hoping we'll
hire them for any of the jobs listed in the previous paragraph, sorry,
but we cannot read or respond to applications for any of those jobs. If
you want one of these jobs order
a FabJob guide to learn how to break into the career of your dreams.
How
to Apply to FabJob
To
increase your chance
of success, please take a minute to read the following information.
Dos
-
Do read
the requirements for the position and any other recommended information
before applying.
-
Do make your initial submission
up
to 400 words. The form cuts off longer submissions, but don't submit
only a couple of sentences because that's not enough information for us
to decide to follow up on an application.
-
Do tell us your Myers-Briggs
Type if you know what it is or if you are applying for any position that
requires research skills.
-
If you are applying for a writing
position, do mention any particular career or small business
topics you are an expert in.
-
Do remember to proofread
before hitting the submit button.
Don'ts
-
Don't address us as dear
sirs.
-
Don't use the form to apply
for any position unrelated to our business as a book publisher.
For example, it is a waste of your time to apply to be a fashion designer,
mystery shopper, cruise ship worker, etc.
-
Don't use this form to ask us
for career advice. For fabulous advice,
order
a FabJob guide.
-
Don't disclose personal information
such as references to your age, health, family, or childhood.
-
Don't provide little information
about yourself and ask us to check out your website or contact you with
more
information about a job. Because of the number of applications we receive,
we can follow up only with people we are interested in working with.
The form below can be used to
submit up to a 400 word application for the jobs described above with FabJob.
Due to the volume of applications we receive, we cannot read or respond
to other submissions.
When you submit the form
it will take you to a page that acknowledges your submission. We will respond
personally if we are interested in following up.
