Rachel
has done an incredible job with this book - I am totally amazed at all
the information she has covered. It should be titled, "What You Would Ever
Need to Know About Becoming a Doula and More".
She
gives wonderful testimonies from moms and doulas. She includes great photographs
as well. But I would have liked to see more photographs. She offers actual
examples of contracts, insurance reimbursement forms, letters and outlines
to presentations. She gives websites (and the links are directly there)
for everything you would ever need to find about doulas, childbirth, breastfeeding,
parenting and all the outside skills you need to know in order to conduct
business - including writing an article, good PR skills and publicity.
She
has put this book together in such a way that it is easy to follow and
find the details you are seeking. She offers samples and also critiques
the proper way to conduct an interview with tips on how to get the job
as well. Her insight in interviewing moms who had mixed reviews of their
doula experiences was helpful. It was uncanny that she offers you the mistakes
others have made and then offers positive reinforcement on how to counter
those mistakes and improve your chances of being hired.
Her
appendix of certifying organizations and what their requirements are is
so helpful. Perhaps a comparison chart of the organizations would have
been a good addition. This book offers easy reading and is packed with
all the information anyone considering becoming a doula would ever need.
I only wish that I had had such a book two and a half years ago when I
first began my business. I had no idea that this e-book would be quite
this valuable.
I
only hope that it will become required reading for the organizations that
certify doulas. It is most helpful in getting started as a doula as well
as a good companion to those who are already doulas and are looking for
ways to enhance their business. This would be money well spent for any
doula or doula to be!
